Eulogia is a Greek word for blessings. Within its definition are the words praise, polished language, consecration, and benefit. The word eulogy came from this word. Broken down, it means good word.  Eulogeo is a similar word, meaning to bless, to speak well of.

Why am I writing a Greek lesson today, you may ask? Because blessing was, is, and always will be very important to God!  God wants us to speak blessings, just as He has spoken blessings to us! In 1 Peter 3:8,9 God tells us how to live, and in verse 10 & 11 he takes it a bit further and talks about our language and the actions we display, and in verse 12 he gives us the why behind it all!

8) Finally, all of you live in harmony with one another;

be sympathetic, love as brothers,be compassionate and humble.

9) Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing,

because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

10) For, “Whoever would love life and see good days

must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech.

11) He must turn from evil and do good;

he must seek peace and pursue it.

12) For the eyes of The Lord are on the righteous

and his ears are attentive to their prayer,

but the face of The Lord is against those who do evil.

I Peter 3:8-12

Something good to think about in this coming week, don’t you agree?

{Editor’s Note:  In the coming weeks, Given the Time will continue to provide a variety of inspirational thoughts from a variety of our authors, but the posts will come to you in a “once a week” format.  Our prayer is that the blogs will provide you with “food for thought” for the entire week and that as the Lord reveals to you additional insights on any given topic of the week, we hope you will feel the freedom to share these insights and encouragement with us in the comment section.}

“Where can I go from your Spirit?  Where can I flee from Your presence?  If I go up to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in the depth, You are there.  If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there Your hand will guide me.  Your right hand will hold me fast.”
