“I have so many things to work on, and so many ways that I fail.

But that’s what grace is all about.

And I constantly wake up every morning trying to get better, trying to improve, trying to walk closer to God.”

Tim Tebow

“There but for the grace of God go I.”

This is a phrase frequently scrolling across my internal video screen. When I look at individuals with physical, emotional, financial or mental challenges because of their life choices, I realize how all that has kept me from traveling similar paths is God’s grace. Whether choosing illegal substances, criminal activity or even those choices that are “good” but not best for my life, I recognize that I have been guided toward the best choices for success in my relationships and life, because of Grace.

“But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace to me was not without effect.

No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.”

I Corinthians 15:10

That’s Where His Mercy Begins

   Steve Green

Let me tell you about mercy
It led me to this land of grace.
Once I was homeless,
Ashamed to show my face.
I deserved no gift or favor
After all that I had done.
You’ve all heard my story, I am the prodigal son.

And he wasn’t surprised at where I had been;
He was waiting for me at the end of my sin.
And the heaven I found in the hell I was in,
That’s where his mercy, That’s where His mercy begins.

Let me share an invitation;
Come join me in this land of rest,
Where we trade our failures And
gain the Father’s best.
Let us turn to Him together,
Leaving all our fears behind. The
Father knows your story. Its mercy you’ll find.

I had run so far from him that all my hope was dying.
But when I finally turned for home, his mercy came and showed the way;
And he’s never surprised at where we have been, He is waiting for us at the end
of our sins, and the heaven we find from the hell we’ve been in, that’s where his mercy
that’s where his mercy begins. Oh, that’s where his mercy, that’s where His mercy begins.
Sweet mercy. Thank you, thank you for mercy, your sweet mercy. Sweet mercy.

I do not at all understand the mystery of grace –

only that it meets us where we are

but does not leave us where it found us.

Anne Lamott

Think over the last month and the challenges you have faced.  Did God reveal Himself to you in the midst of those circumstances in some way?  Did you get a sense of His Presence and find some Peace?  God’s grace is truly mysterious and so very powerful!

Gary Smalley, in many of his writings focused on relationships, talks about keeping the “love cup” full.

Picture your morning coffee. Do you let the cup get completely empty before refilling? I don’t because I like to make certain every drop is nice and hot. Well, if I work at protecting my coffee so that it tastes just right, how much more should I be willing to work at protecting the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of those I impact daily?

There are hurting people all around us—is it just that their “love cup” is empty and no one is offering to refill their cup? Perhaps you have been sent today to that individual, to offer not just a cup but a bucket full of grace…pouring into their life so they too can experience a full measure of Jesus’ love today.

“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”  Hebrews 4:16

What gives me the most hope every day is

God’s grace;

knowing that his grace is going to

give me the strength for whatever I face,

knowing that

nothing is a surprise to God.
